Branching Out Theme of the Week: Ways We Communicate
Especially when interacting with young children, we quickly become aware of how children who haven’t developed language skills yet, can still tell us what they need. We can tell from their facial expressions, body movements and sounds or cries when things are good or not so good. When we know children well, we can predict what the sound or movement means and what they need because of that. When we talk to each other, it’s important to still be aware of those non-verbal cues and use those to help interpret what the other means. This week, we will be exploring all of the ways we communicate including body clues and more external means of communication- phones, writing and print, emails and computers, faxes and mail. Why don’t you send your child’s class a letter they can open and read together! Help us teach them another way we communicate with each other!
