Our Staff
Generations is dedicated to providing highly qualified staff to meet your loved one’s emotional, social, and creative needs. Our child care staff comprises a team of professionals and para-professionals in early childhood education. Staff in our elder care program have backgrounds in gerontology and recreational therapy.
Screenings and Training
All applicants are screened and fingerprinted to check for a history of child abuse or a criminal record. Hired applicants receive a thorough orientation to Generations’ child and elder care practices. In addition, staff members attend professional workshops and conferences to improve their skills. Staff are trained in CPR and first aid on an annual basis. Generations enjoys a lower-than-average staff turnover rate, which leads to higher stability and program quality.
Hiring Practices
A potential employee, pre-screened by Generations Human Resource Manager, must spend at least 2 hours in a classroom. The classroom teacher offers standardized feedback on the candidate’s interactions. The candidate completes an interview questionnaire and then meets with the Site Director and submits references before being offered a position. This process helps ensure only qualified, caring people work in our centers.
Orientation, Mentoring, On-going Training
All new employees participate in an 8 hour company orientation conducted by Generations Director of Staff Development. Employees are briefed on company policies and procedures such as Communication, Classroom Management Strategies, Health & Safety and Curriculum.
Generations employs a full-time Director of Staff Development and Nurse who offer regular on-site staff training. Staff attend workshops and conferences in the community. Our staff regularly participates in The Rochester Association for the Education of Young Children’s annual conference, the Spring seminar and School-Age workshops. On-line workshops and conferences are easily accessible to staff in all buildings and are an additional means of professional development.
Teacher Quality
Generations’ Lead Teachers are retained from year to year. Nationally, the turnover rate for child care averages 40%. Our Lead Teachers stay with Generations which means consistent, quality care for children.
Lead Teachers have advanced or specialized training including a CDA (Child Development Associate Credential), Associate, Bachelor, or Master’s degrees in Early Education or a related field. Assistant Teacher are also required to enroll in the CDA program ensuring high quality care.
