Generations is participating in a Hands-On Science Event at WXXI Studios (280 State Street) on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm., featuring Sid the Science Kid. Sid the Science Kid is a television series and interactive website for children ages 3-6 that utilize comedy to promote exploration, discovery, and science readiness among preschoolers. The series was created by The Jim Henson Company with the goal of encouraging children to think, talk, and work the way scientists do by building on children’s natural curiosity about the world. It motivates preschoolers to learn and develop confidence in themselves. The show also encourages parents, caregivers, and teachers to become partners and create a “climate of curiosity” for children.

Congratulations to our St. John’s Center on Highland Avenue on receiving accreditation approval from NECPA (National Early Childhood Program Accreditation)! NECPA was established in 1991 to encourage quality and recognize excellence in early childhood programs throughout the United States and other countries. The process involves parents, staff, and program management who all work together, reaching for a higher level of quality.
Accreditation from NECPA is a valuable recognition awarded to programs and centers that choose to set themselves apart. The accreditation is granted for three years until 2015. Thanks to Jeanie Harris, Program Operations Manager, and our Site Director, Amy Sturn, for all the time and effort they put into achieving this recognition.

Many times, families in crisis need the basic necessities such as shampoo, toothpaste, hats, and mittens. We are collecting shoeboxes, which the kids will decorate, and personal items to fill them. This is a wonderful way to involve our children during this season of giving and teach them that there is so much joy in helping others!
